‘The Error Exists between the Keyboard and Screen’!
Blame it on the new boy
Sensitive UK government data emailed on excel spreadsheet, breached and leaked on Facebook.
The UK government says: ‘this was a clear breach of data protection protocols by a junior defence official’!
The database contained 33,000 records and the confidential information (names, email addresses and phone numbers and father’s names) of over 18,700 applicants to the Ministry of Defence’s Afghan resettlement scheme.
Human operator error leads to more data breaches than any other form of data loss and not just in the government.
When 18,700 human lives are at stake this should not be possible.
Yet bad decisions are still made, protocols are overridden, with significant valuable and sensitive data lost for good.
With the UK government failing at data security, what can you do that’s better?
