People risk more than doubles in the last year!
BDO Global Risk Landscape 2025
A couple of things that caught my eye:
People: More than a quarter of executives (28%) said talent or people capacity is a top three risk, up from 12% in 2024.
Cyber. 25% of CEOs report cybercrime as a top three risk with some industries more vulnerable than others. Professional services firms were the most likely to be unprepared for cyber risk (41%), followed by tech, media and telecom businesses (40%) and private equity (36%).
AI and Data. 62% said AI could increase privacy risks. Kirstie Tiernan AI Leader, BDO USA says: “There’s still a lot of underestimation….many leaders equate AI risk with data privacy or just model bias, and they stop there. The reality is that risk now includes reputation risk, workforce disruption, over automation and maybe even sometimes loss of institutional knowledge.”

Acquihire is a genuine risk as key talent with AI, coding and other key knowledge are hired away. See Zuckerberg’s $100m sign on bonus to openAI key coding talent!
The first step in cyber resilience is working out what needs protecting most (clue – trade secrets).
Most worry about privacy data and GDPR, whereas AI will expose more than just privacy data, such as valuable commercial and technical secrets, know-how and results
