The Wall Street Journal reporter Dana Mattioli. Is publishing a new book: ‘The Everything War: Amazon’s Ruthless Quest to Own the World and Remake Corporate Power’.
The book reveals that Amazon hired employees from a rival (Trader Joe’s) to learn sales and profit information about product lines.
The book also reveals that maybe Trader Joe’s own innovative new snacks were actually copies from other smaller producers!
Information asymmetry creates advantage and what better way to gain this than by hiring the people who know how?
There is nothing new here this happens all the time – but how do you defend against this risk?
Identify such commercial information as trade secrets and make it very clear to all that they are to remain as trade secrets.
Write to the new employer of your key employee and let them know…..apparently in Italy the new employer is always assumed liable for trade secret theft!
