If data is the new oil can it heat your swimming pool?

If data is the new oil then intellectual property is the new gold. Combine the two together and you get hot innovation.

At least that is what start-up Deep Green has done at the Exmouth swimming pool.

Data centres have a big problem with heat and need to be kept within a temperature range for optimal performance hence the need for energy extraction.

Using the know-how and intellectual property generated in Finland where the capital city, Helsinki, heats some public buildings using heat extracted from data centres, Deep Green is doing its bit to keep swimming pools open in the energy crisis.

The concept, developed over five years, is relatively straight forward – the hot oil is pumped into a heat exchanger to warm the water in the pool.

The business intellectual property and the know-how is being put to fantastic public good in this case. With 65 swimming pools closed already in the crisis and energy bills increasing by £100k + this innovation is much needed.
